Purpo5e

Last Year at Purpose we had a big celebration for our 5th Birthday in which we drew a huge timeline on our baseline wall and I, with help from a few others, illustrated all of Purposes best bits of work on to it. We then invited friends and clients to come, pick up a red pen and add their stories to the wall. After a sheepish start, the wine began to flow, so did the red ink. We have created a new year electronic mailer from the night here. There is a polaroid hidden on the shelf in which you can see a movie of the wall been made. Enjoy

While we're on the subject...

Looking through Studio 8's work and their dynamic use of letterpress reminded me of the posters I keep seeing round the tubes advertising the Che Guevara film. Great film and some pretty nice posters too.

Happy New Year - The best of 2008

Happy New Year! I thought as a new year starts I'd take a quick look back to last year and post a link to my favourite agency of 2008, ex Frost Creative Directors, some great editorial based clients amongst others and some good old wooden type, can't go wrong... Studio 8. Always always worth a look.

Michael Landy

I made the trip to the posh end of the smoke, to Tate Britain last week and whilst perusing their Drawing galleries I came across Michael Landy's Scrapheap Services illustrations. The prints were black and white pen and ink drawings, about 6 foot tall and the detail was amazing. You may recognise his name as one of his most famous pieces was him selling his life and all his possessions! There is a book of the illustrations here, but the book doesn't do them justice, they look best at full size.

Yulia Brodskaya

Some amazing work from Yulia Brodskaya. She has just completed a set of 7 seven paper-cut illustrations for the Guardians G2 magazine. Her website is well worth a look.

Anthony Burrill

As I was looking through the Print Clubs website I saw a hand drawn version of one of Anthony Burrill's Posters. I bought this poster a few months back and have yet to get it up on the wall. Anthony Burrill has some great work on his website here too

Cheka Kidogo - Rankin on the Southbank

After a nice drink in the bar at the BFI this afternoon I had a stroll down the Southbank and a wander through Rankins portraits for Oxfam from the refugee camps of the Congo, called Cheka Kidogo. As you'd expect they were all stunning images on his trademark white background, but great to see the portraits defy the usual war victim style images and shine out as real people with individuality and personality. Check out the full range here and here
